In the Autumn of 2024, Evana® undertook a survey of 228 people to gauge the general public’s understanding of the menstrual cycle.

Here, we share some of our most illuminating results, pointing to a lack of understanding across ages and genders and a desire for greater knowledge.

56% of the sample stated they did not even feel 'moderately confident' naming all four phases of the menstrual cycle, with 29% 'not being confident at all.'

Only 8% stated they were 'very confident' when it came to naming the four phases of the menstrual cycle.

Only 18% of the sample could correctly order the four phases of the menstrual cycle.

Interestingly, across the 45-54 year old demographic, only 3% could correctly order the four phases of the menstrual cycle.

66% of the sample stated they did not even feel 'moderatley confident' describing the hormonal changes that occur during each phase of the menstrual cycle, with 26% 'not being confident at all'.

Only 4% stated they were 'very confident' when it came to describing the hormonal changes that occur during each phase of the menstrual cycle.

41% of the sample reported that they often or always feel confused about their menstrual cycle and/or hormones.

60% of the sample indicated they would like to learn more about how the hormonal changes impact the mood and body.
